How i started my journey from zero as physiotherapist
How I Started From Zero Contacts and Built a Busy Home Physiotherapy Practice
My personal journey of starting in a new city with no referrals, no contacts and how I gradually built a busy practice.
1. How We Started & Got Our First Patient
I started fresh in a completely new city. I had no contacts, no doctor referrals and no existing patients. The only person I knew here was my husband.
Instead of trying random marketing methods, my husband searched Google to understand how patients actually look for a physiotherapist. He searched terms like "physiotherapist near me" and noticed that many patients were finding physiotherapists through websites that ranked on Google.
Initially we didn't have enough budget to spend on a website, but we decided to take a risk. We got our website developed through PhysioDesk. At that time it cost us around ₹25,000 as a one-time fee.
After the website went live, we still didn't receive inquiries. We genuinely thought we had made a mistake. When we contacted PhysioDesk, they explained that Google usually takes around three months to start trusting a new website.
Requirements:
- Brand name
- Logo
- Your photo
- Domain name (they managed the rest)
2. How I Started Charging Better
Getting patients was no longer the problem. Negotiation was.
Whenever I introduced myself as "Hi, I'm Dr. Krishna and I provide home physiotherapy," many patients saw me as an individual physiotherapist and immediately started bargaining.
My husband and the team at PhysioDesk suggested creating a proper brand instead of presenting myself only as an individual.
They also had a patient management system with:
- Patient management
- Branded billing
- Patient login
- Notifications to patients
After that I started introducing myself as coming from Proper Care Physiotherapy. Psychologically, patients perceived the service as a professional healthcare brand, negotiations reduced and most patients accepted our standard charges.
At the time I started using it, the plans started around ₹599/month and ₹1,000/month. Pricing may change, so it's best to verify the latest plans directly.
3. How One Patient Brings Another Patient
One thing I noticed is that patients usually forget the physiotherapist's name after treatment is completed, but they don't forget a brand.
Every patient received a branded bill, so months later they could easily find our contact details again or recommend us to family and friends.
Another unexpected advantage was that the bills generated through PhysioDesk were insurance claim ready, and some patients specifically preferred that.
